We’re still weeks away from the unveiling of Fox’s ginormous X-Men: Days of Future Past (the cover of this week’s EW) but, fittingly, director Bryan Singer and producer/writer Simon Kinberg can only look ahead: The pair are developing, along with X2 writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, the next X-Men film, Apocalypse, slated for May 27, 2016. Not much about the film is known, but Singer says that the film will be “somewhat” based on the 1990 comic storyline “Age of Apocalypse,” which features ancient villain Apocalypse and imagines an alternate universe. “[The movie] won’t necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with,” admits Singer. Adds Kinberg, “From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there’ll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply.”

Days of Future Past will provide clues to the storyline of Apocalypse. Says Singer, “You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen.” He adds, “Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?”

X-Men: Apocalypse will follow Charles (James McAvoy), Erik (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), and Hank (Nicholas Hoult), and Singer says that those actors are all on board from deals signed for First Class. Singer also says he’s interested in bringing in other mutants, like Gambit and Nightcrawler. “I’m excited because I want to start introducing familiar characters at different ages and also explore the ‘80s.”

Fire is catching, much like Jennifer Lawrence since she burst onto the scene in 2010′s Oscar underdog, Winter’s Bone. The flames spread with the cinematic and home release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Hollywood has shared rants and raves about this young woman so unwilling to compromise herself or fit any type of celebrity mold. Whether you think her sincere or annoying, she continues to crowd the headlines, forging a path for the greater female top billing on movie screens, a process Catching Fire is a large part of.
Cinema has long been a man’s world, with women serving as quirky side kicks, romantic interests, best friends, almost always in supporting roles. When a lady is handed a lead role, it often fulfills some sexist stereotype, as in almost every movie Jennifer Lopez has made, Selena being the major exceptionJennifer Lawrence has been blowing our minds for three years now, doing something completely different, Catching Fire topping it all.
In Winter’s Bone, she dominated the screen, a stitched-together force of secondhand clothes and fierce determination. In The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, Jennifer Lawrence came as a rescue from the blandness of the Twilight series, the idea that young women are incomplete without a love interest or male influence. With Katniss Everdeen, Jennifer Lawrence gave us confidence and insecurity, power and fear. Even in a fantastic dystopia, Katniss was real and flawed, thrilling with too much wisdom and teenage emotional dysfunction. In Catching Fire, her psychological trauma was intense, her confusion about love a distorted reflection of what many of us feel throughout our lives. Each film, her performance deeply anchored a franchise that could have easily lost its way among the studio proclivities for watered down characters, special effects and men as the focus of our emotional investment. • Read full story »

Jennifer Lawrence‘s tips for getting through a marathon day? Pop Rocks, Slim Jims, and good old H2O!

As if the star wasn’t endearing enough already, Lawrence told Us Weekly on the Oscars red carpet Sunday, Mar. 2, that she was getting through her marathon day with the help of junk food.

“When I’m presenting, I’m going to pour them into my mouth,” Lawrence joked of the Pop Rocks she pulled out of her purse, along with other snacks. Wearing a cherry color Dior Haute Couture gown with peplum ruffles at her waists, she quipped that her experience on the red carpet was similar to that of the 2013 Oscars, where she took home a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

“I’m just as hungry and my feet still hurt,” the blonde star told Us. “I’ve got a Slim Jim and protein bar… and Pop Rocks.”

Indeed, Lawrence’s experience was enhanced, yet again, with a clumsy moment — this year, the star stumbled over a cone on the red carpet. Lawrence, wearing $2 million worth of Neil Lane diamonds and jewels, was coming off a packed schedule even before arriving outside Dolby Theatre.

Styled by Rachel Zoe for the 2014 Oscars, the Hunger Games lead, 23, endured about two to three hours of head-to-toe preparations Sunday afternoon. An insider, who was with Lawrence as she prepped for the awards show in her Beverly Hills hotel, noted that at one point, boyfriend Nicholas Hoult handed the actress a glass of water. He wanted “to make sure she was hydrated before their long day,” the source said.

Joined by her parents Gary and Karen Lawrence, the couple took pictures together then headed for the Oscars at 2:15 p.m. Ahead of their departure, Lawrence turned to Hoult and told the actor to “eat lots of the chips and sandwiches.”

During the show, a source told Us that Lawrence “was passing out ginger chewy candies to Bradley Cooper and his [girlfriend Suki Waterhouse].” The eyewitness added that Hoult — who was affectionate with Lawrence for much of the evening — turned his girlfriend and told her, “I love you.”

Jennifer Lawrence did not fail in being very Jennifer Lawrence-y at Sunday’s Oscars – and Jared Leto broke it all down for Access Hollywood.

When the actress hit the stage to present the Best Actor award, she went off script, looking into the crowd, saying, “Why are you laughing? What, is this funny? I’m still watching you!”

It turns out, the actress was talking to fellow Oscar winner Jared Leto, who was in the audience laughing with his family.

“She said, ‘What are you laughing at?’ But what she didn’t know was that Ellen was on the side…making, pantomiming [motions like], ‘Don’t fall, don’t fall,’ and my mom and my brother are all cracking up,” he explained.

“I guess we don’t have any manners,” he joked. “You can take them out of Louisiana but you can’t take Louisiana out of them, right?”

Jared also weighed in on Jennifer’s red carpet trip earlier on the Oscars red carpet, her second consecutive fall at the Oscars.

“You know, I’m starting to wonder if this is a bit of an act,” he told Billy Bush of the actress’ less-than-graceful red carpet moment.

Sometimes the MTV Movie Awards are just like the Oscars, like this year when movies likeAmerican Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street find themselves leading the pack with eight nominations apiece, and major stars such as Jennifer LawrenceLeonardo DiCaprioJessica Chastain and Brad Pitt are in the running to be honored.

And at other times…

Chastain and Pitt are duking it out for buckets of popcorn in a category called Best Scared-as-S–t Performance.

The nominations are in for the blockbuster-friendly 2014 MTV Movie Awards, to be hostedby Conan O’Brien on April 13 at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre, and the aforementioned films are both in the running for Movie of the Year, along with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug12 Years a Slave and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

JLaw and Leo lead all individual celebs with four nominations apiece, with Lawrence’s coming for Best Female Performance and Best Fight for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire; Best Kiss, an honor she shares with American Hustle costar Amy Adams; and Best Musical Performance, also in Hustle, for when her beleaguered housewife character lets loose to “Live and Let Die.”

Adams is also up for Best Female Performance, as is Jennifer Aniston in stripper-with-a-heart-of-gold mode in We’re the MillersSandra Bullock for Gravity and Lupita Nyong’ofor 12 Years a Slave (none of that Best Supporting Actor and Actress nonsense here).

DiCaprio, meanwhile, squares off against Bradley Cooper in American HustleChiwetel Ejiofor in 12 YearsJosh Hutcherson in Catching Fire and Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club for Best Male Performance. (Don’t fret, they didn’t forget about Jared Leto: he’s up for Best Onscreen Duo with McConaughey and Best On-Screen Transformation.)

See? Very Oscaresque this year!

Then, of course, comes the love for the films that tend to get overlooked come awards season, such as Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (a sure winner for Best Fight for its massive star-studded brawl, right?) , This Is the EndMan of SteelOz the Great and PowerfulJackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (which, then again, is an Academy Award-nominated film) and others that may not have impressed critics as much as they impressed some of those who will be offering up their votes online.

Speaking of which, voting starts today and is open till April 12.

And while McConaughey and Leto might be a sure bet for Best On-Screen Duo any other year, this time they’ll be up against the surely unbeatable pair that is Vin Diesel and the latePaul Walker in Fast & Furious 6.

And perhaps the Motliest of Crews Award goes to the nominees for Best Cameo: Kanye WestRobert De NiroJoan RiversRihanna, and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Jennifer Lawrence is apparently planning to take a long break from acting.

The Oscar-winning actress has worked on eight movies in the last 12 months and, according to Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, she wants to take some time off to unwind.

He told The Sun on Sunday: “She’s going to have a long break for a year where she won’t do anything.

“It’s been non-stop for her and she deserves a rest.”
He went on: “Jennifer is too nice and will do people favours and agrees to do a movie like American Hustle when she could have had a rest.

“She signed on to do Hunger Games when she was young and wouldn’t have realised how much it would dominate her life.

“But she’s a professional and always will be.”

Meanwhile, filmmaker David O Russell – who directed Jen in her Oscar-winning turn in Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, which she’s nominated for – has told how a spider helped the actress to win him over.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director said he realized how special Jennifer was during her Silver Linings audition, when she chatted about a spider she had spotted in the bathroom.

“I asked her to cry and she made me cry,” he said. “She cried, so she went to get a tissue in the bathroom. She went, ‘Ah! There’s a gigantic spider in the bathroom!’ She imitated how the spider went when she tried to attack [it]. That fascinated me as much as anything else. She was unlike anybody I’d ever seen.”

It’s official, Jennifer Lawrence is as down-to-earth and lovely as she seems – her boyfriend’s sister has confirmed it.

Jen – who is currently dating her X-Men co-star Nicholas Hoult – spent a lot of time with Nick’s family just before Christmas, and rather than acting like a Hollywood big shot she fetched her own drinks and even baked pies with the family.

“Jen is lovely. She’s really easy to talk to,” Clarista Hoult, 21, tells heat exclusively.

“She’s really family orientated, so she fitted in well with us. She doesn’t seem like a Hollywood type, she just mucked in. We’re a very unglam family. In our house if you want a drink, you get it yourself,” says Clarista, who is also an actress.

In fact, Jen got stuck in with helping out in the kitchen too, making a chicken pie with Nicholas’ dad and sampling cakes from Mary Berry’s cookbook.

While Clarista spent the festive period with basically the biggest actress in Hollywood right now, she’s also forging her own acting career.

“I’ve just done an indie film [called Balance], and it’s the director’s first film. He found out about me online. It was shot it in a day. It was quite an interesting role about girl Myra who has near death experiences throughout a day and about the fight for life.”

Maybe this time next year we’ll be seeing Clarista nominated at the BAFTAs alongside her brother’s famous gf.

Having won a gold statuette for her performance in Silver Linings Playbookand been nominated in 2011 for her role inWinter’s Bone, J-Law is the youngest three-time nominee in the history of the Oscars.

Fearne Cotton has said that she is looking forward to speaking to Jennifer Lawrence on the BAFTAs red carpet.

The broadcaster is presenting Live from the Red Carpet: The 2014 EE British Academy Film Awards on E! on Sunday, February 16 at 5.15pm.

“Jennifer Lawrence I’m a big fan of – I think she was great in American Hustle,” Cotton told Digital Spy.

“She seems like a bit of a loose cannon in a good way. That could be fun. I think she just seems really real.”

She added: “She bridges between us mere mortals and Hollywood stars. She’s somewhere in between where she still has grounded, normal mannerisms.

“Things happen to her and the way that she talks about those instances… she’s not there going, ‘Oh god, I’m on a red carpet’.

“She’s talking about it like we would and it’s just really refreshing to see someone who’s having a great time.”

Cotton said: “She’s just got a lot of sass. Even on film you can really tell that she’s so in to it, there’s no holding back.

“She just gives everything she’s got and she seems like a really passionate, fun person who doesn’t take herself too seriously, and that is obviously a little bit rare in Hollywood.”

While some actresses might steer clear of artificially colored snack foods while in full 70s hair, makeup, and skin-tight, custom-made white gown, Jennifer Lawrence—our charmingly no-fuss Oscar winner—had no qualms about doing just the opposite on the set of American Hustle. During an awards-season discussion last night, moderated by Vanity Fair senior West Coast editor Krista Smith inside Diane von Furstenberg’s Journey of a Dress exhibit in Los Angeles, American Hustle’s Oscar-nominated costume designer Michael Wilkinson explained how he went about transforming Lawrence for her character’s highest-drama moment in David O. Russell’s period piece—and how Lawrence inadvertently mussed the design.

Describing how he translated her character’s unstable mental state in his costume designs, Wilkinson said, “With Rosalyn there was a real dichotomy, almost a schizophrenia. We saw her at home, where she was sort of hiding from the world, she was depressed and falling asleep under a sun lamp. We liked that she didn’t give a damn how she looked [at home] . . . wearing printed muumuus and shapeless things. Then, when she goes out to town, she switches modes and tries to get attention and make her husband jealous.”

The highest-impact design Wilkinson created for Lawrence was a low-cut, white metallic jersey dress that Russell had envisioned Rosalyn wearing during her climactic scene—during which she confronts and kisses her husband’s mistress, played by Amy Adams. “David really had it set in his mind that she would be wearing this dress that she just poured herself into. He wanted to see every single lump and bump. There had to be a sense of, ‘Is she going to fall out of it?’ It had this dangerous feeling to it, which matched her own dangerous mental landscape.” • Read full story »
