As the University of Louisville moves into the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2014-2015 season, it just made a big statement to its new rivals in the conference.

The university tapped Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence to voice over a new promo video.

“I grew up in the Derby City, home to a proud and storied university, filled with rich athletic tradition and packed with fans who are as loyal and passionate as any in college sports,” the “Hunger Games” star, 23, says in the video on the school’s website.

A soft-spoken Lawrence continues, saying the people of the region “live and breathe the Cardinals.”

“The ‘L’ is the sign that connects all of us to one strong and united Card Nation,” she says. “Now the next chapter of Louisville athletics is upon us as we join the prestigious ACC and prepare to face some of history’s most accomplished and elite collegiate programs.”

She expands on the competition on the courts, gridirons and fields and how they will be fierce.

“Let’s do this,” she ends the video with a picture of her sporting a Cardinal T-shirt.

Action heroes don’t always have to be men. That’s the lesson actress Jennifer Lawrence is teaching Hollywood, $1 million at a time. As Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movies, she fights for her life against a tyrannical government without spending much time worrying about which boy she’s going to choose. Her butt-kicking ways have helped the franchise earn $1.5 billion so far with two more movies on the way.

She also showed off her action chops in the recent X-Men: Days of Future Past. As shape-shifting mutant Mystique, Lawrence had plenty of fight scenes and her star power helped make the movie the highest-grossing of the X-Men films with $700 million at the global box office so far.

Oh, and Lawrence can also act. Just 23 years old, Lawrence has been nominated for three Academy Awards. She won the Best Actress award in 2013 for Silver Linings Playbook.

That combination of action hero and award-winning actress makes Jennifer Lawrence the most powerful actress in Hollywood right now. We estimate that she earned $34 million between June 2013 and June 2014. Lawrence ranks 12th on our Celebrity 100 power list, which makes her the highest-ranked actress.

And she also ranked #12 on forbes ‘most powerful celebrities’ list

Actress and Kentucky native Jennifer Lawrence along with her brother are doing their part to help a young Louisville girl recover from her battle with leukemia.

Hadley Mercer was diagnosed at only six months old. She recently celebrated her first birthday in the hospital with her parents and two older sisters. Hadley has undergone 20 spinal taps and chemotherapy treatment for months to battle her aggressive cancer. She received a bone marrow transplant in April, and the family has learned the chemo and transplant worked.

Hadley’s now in remission, but she’s still in the hospital for treatment for complications from the transplant.

There have been some bright spots along the way. In December, Lawrence, who is a family friend, visited Hadley and other children at the hospital.

“She (Jennifer Lawrence) had to put on a gown and mask and she came in and saw Hadley and gave her a signed poster,” said Ashlie Mercer, Hadley’s Mother. “It will be cool when Hadley is older.”

“She’s always had a soft spot for children, and especially sick children, so that was kind of what led to her going down there – help the family,” said Ben Lawrence, Jennifer Lawrence’s Brother.

Ben is helping organize a block party through the company he co-owns, Louisville Geek, along with several other businesses.
The money raised at the block party this Saturday, June 21 will help the Mercers pay their medical bills.

Ben says they expect one item up for auction to be especially popular: a trip to a private island in Belize arranged by the Oscar-winning actress, an island she herself has visited.
Jennifer Lawrence has also donated signed memorabilia from the Hunger Games and American Hustle to be auctioned at the block party.

Twilight actor full of praise for the Hunger Games frontwoman

They’ve both been tasked with carrying a gargantuan teen franchise, and it turns out that Robert Pattinson is a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence.

The Twilight hunk is currently promoting his new movie, The Rover, while J-Law completes shooting on the final Hunger Games instalment, Mockingjay – Part 2.

Speaking to The Daily Beast in a lengthy interview, he said he’s a big fan of what J-Law has achieved.

“She’s amazing. She’s absolutely incredible,” he said.

“But also we’re different types of people. She seems like she’s super-confident — and I don’t have the kind of confidence.

“She glows. I think you can fit that into quite a few different areas. Whereas I’ve got a kind of sneak-through-the-cracks style.”

In the same interview, the actor also denied that he is making a conscious effort to change route following the end of the vampire series.

“I never even thought of all the Twilights as a single entity. They were all separate movies for me,” he reasoned. “I mean, I forget how to act in between every single movie!”

He did, however, say that a big price comes with taking a role like Edward Cullen.

He explained: “But I’ve always thought that nothing comes for free. You get paid a bunch of money. You get a bunch of opportunities. And you’ve got to pay for it somehow. And in my case, I paid for it by having to figure out how to walk down the street [without getting mobbed]. I paid for it by people thinking I was one thing. That’s my major desire as an actor — to have no one know who I am. To have no preconceptions.

“So obviously when a character becomes iconic, you have to deal with the baggage that comes with it.”

I saw your 2008 directorial debut, The Poker House, and people don’t really give you enough credit for “discovering” Jennifer Lawrence, since that was her first film credit. No shit! You can quote me on that. No shit. I cast her in her first film. Look, she deserves one hundred percent of her success, period. In addition to that, I think I passed along 25 years of experience of being an actress to her. But she’s amazing and the camera loves her, and that’s why I cast her. It’s like when I first saw Leo DiCaprio in This Boy’s Life. We were editing A League of Their Own and De Niro and them were editing This Boy’s Life next door. Me and Penny [Marshall] were inseparable because I wanted to absorb everything she was doing, so I’d go to post-production with her. So De Niro comes in and goes, “You’ve got to see this kid.” So we went into the room and saw some unedited scenes with DiCaprio and both went, “There’s another movie star.” That’s what happened with Jennifer. And Chloe Moretz is in The Poker House, too! She’s going to be around forever and ever. I wrote her half-page monologues, and she’d just knock them out of the park. It was a small budget, under $1.5 million, and she was doing like eight pages a day. I went up to her mom and said, “What do we do after lunch? I don’t want her to crash!” and she went, “Oh no, she’s fine. This is what she does.” She’s remarkable, that kid.

Where did you find Jennifer? I’ve lived in Venice since Point Break in ’91, and Mary Vernieu lives in Venice, so she cast The Poker House as a favor to me, and she’s brilliant and casts every good movie. So, I’m in Chicago and we’d already cast Selma Blair as the mom, and Selma is five feet tall and weights 90 pounds. Mary sends me these tapes of these girls and goes, “This girl Jennifer Lawrence is a star. You have to watch this tape.” But it said she was 5’9” on her resume, and I said, “I can’t fit them both in the frame! How am I supposed to have the mom be 5’ and the daughter be 5’9”?” But she said, “Just watch the tape.” So I watched the tape and was like, “Okay, great, that’s another movie star.” When I flew back to L.A., I put Jennifer, Chloe, and Sophi [Bairley], who plays the middle daughter, read together, and afterwards I said, “Do you want to be in a movie?” And they said, “Of course, that’s why we’re here.” And I said, “No, do you want to be in this movie?” And they said, “Yes, of course we do, that’s why we’re here.” And I said, “No, I’m offering you the part, do you want to be in this movie?” And they started jumping up and down and screaming. I did that because I hated auditioning for a part and then waiting five days for your agent to tell you that you got it.
And Jennifer Lawrence’s father pops up in the film, too, as the basketball coach. I forgot about that! He’s the basketball coach, yes. He was just hanging around. It was super low-budget and I had no producers looking over my shoulder. Steve Cannell, god rest his soul, just wrote a check and it was handled through his production company, so we were just humpin’ and making a movie. So I don’t know whose idea it was.

Jennifer Lawrence may have been “starving” at the 2013 Oscars but she was prepared for this year’s ceremony, bringing some snacks in her bag, specifically, candy and Slim Jims.

“Hot and mild, because I didn’t know what kind of mood I’d be in,” the actress said on Friday’s Live! With Kelly and Michael of the Slim Jims. She also noted that she brought breath mints to counteract the salty snacks.

Appearing to promote her role in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the star talked with Kelly Ripa about her seemingly non-stop filming schedule, revealing that she wraps her work on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay in two months, at which point she’ll finally be able to get some time off.

But she said it’s hard for her to relax when she finally gets the opportunity to do so.
“I try to sleep in, but then I always wake up at 6 a.m. and panic like, ‘I’ve got to be at work!’…So I just try so hard to relax so that becomes my job,” Lawrence said, adding that she’d have to “learn how to relax again” after wrapping Hunger Games.
She also explained that if she weren’t acting, she’d probably be a nurse.

Lawrence was an assistant nurse at her parents’ summer camp and said that she considered going to nursing school if the acting thing didn’t work out.

“I actually had a five-year plan when I came out here to act. I was like, ‘I’ll give it five years, and if that doesn’t work, I’ll go to nursing school,’” she said.

“I still sometimes wonder if I made the right decision,” she joked. “In restaurants or airports, I’ll sometimes wonder, mull it over.”
With her busy schedule and three Oscar nominations, she probably won’t need to consider a backup plan any time soon.

Lawrence also confirmed that she’ll do another movie with David O. Russell, the film about the inventor of the Miracle Mop that he was considering her for.

“He recently texted me at I think 4 in the morning, and he was like, ‘I think I want to make a movie about the woman who invented the [Miracle] Mop. You want to do it?’ I was like, ‘Yeah,’” she recalled. “I can just imagine David looking at somebody mopping and being like, ‘Yeah, that’s my next screenplay.’”

I’ve added new scan cover mag of Jennifer Lawrence featured on ‘Marie Claire’ magazine, June issue to the gallery.

On her candor:”I’m not like, ‘I’m a rebel; I’m out of control.’ I just don’t think about things before I say them or do them.”

On realistic movie characters:”Show somebody who crawls into bed without washing her face and brushing her teeth because she’s hammered—then I can get on board. Show me somebody who just shaves her shins and not her thighs.”

On the death of The Hunger Games costar Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee):”I work very hard to forget that day. It just sucks. When you lose a friend, someone who you really like and who makes you laugh, it takes so long for it to sink in.”

On friendship:”I don’t trust a girl who doesn’t have any girlfriends. I have really close girlfriends, but they are guys like me—girls who eat and don’t know anything about fashion.”

On rumors that she’s jealous of Kristen Stewart, Nicholas Hoult’s costar in the upcoming sci-fi romance Equals:”There was something in a magazine, and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, that’s hilarious,’ because Kristen and I are friends. I actually texted her a picture of it and was like, ‘Just so you know, this is absolutely true.’”

On being up against Lupita Nyong’o for the 2014 Best Supporting Actress Oscar:”I was very happy I voted for Lupita. It’s beautiful when you watch something good happen to somebody when it’s well deserved.”

We’re still weeks away from the unveiling of Fox’s ginormous X-Men: Days of Future Past (the cover of this week’s EW) but, fittingly, director Bryan Singer and producer/writer Simon Kinberg can only look ahead: The pair are developing, along with X2 writers Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty, the next X-Men film, Apocalypse, slated for May 27, 2016. Not much about the film is known, but Singer says that the film will be “somewhat” based on the 1990 comic storyline “Age of Apocalypse,” which features ancient villain Apocalypse and imagines an alternate universe. “[The movie] won’t necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I’m playing with,” admits Singer. Adds Kinberg, “From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there’ll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply.”

Days of Future Past will provide clues to the storyline of Apocalypse. Says Singer, “You won’t feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we’ll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen.” He adds, “Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You’re dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?”

X-Men: Apocalypse will follow Charles (James McAvoy), Erik (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), and Hank (Nicholas Hoult), and Singer says that those actors are all on board from deals signed for First Class. Singer also says he’s interested in bringing in other mutants, like Gambit and Nightcrawler. “I’m excited because I want to start introducing familiar characters at different ages and also explore the ‘80s.”

March 20, 2014
Fire is catching, much like Jennifer Lawrence since she burst onto the scene in 2010′s Oscar underdog, Winter’s Bone. The flames spread with the cinematic and home release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Hollywood has shared rants and raves about this young woman so unwilling to compromise herself or fit any type of celebrity mold. Whether you think her sincere or annoying, she continues to crowd the headlines, forging a path for the greater female top billing on movie screens, a process Catching Fire is a large part of.
Cinema has long been a man’s world, with women serving as quirky side kicks, romantic interests, best friends, almost always in supporting roles. When a lady is handed a lead role, it often fulfills some sexist stereotype, as in almost every movie Jennifer Lopez has made, Selena being the major exceptionJennifer Lawrence has been blowing our minds for three years now, doing something completely different, Catching Fire topping it all.
In Winter’s Bone, she dominated the screen, a stitched-together force of secondhand clothes and fierce determination. In The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, Jennifer Lawrence came as a rescue from the blandness of the Twilight series, the idea that young women are incomplete without a love interest or male influence. With Katniss Everdeen, Jennifer Lawrence gave us confidence and insecurity, power and fear. Even in a fantastic dystopia, Katniss was real and flawed, thrilling with too much wisdom and teenage emotional dysfunction. In Catching Fire, her psychological trauma was intense, her confusion about love a distorted reflection of what many of us feel throughout our lives. Each film, her performance deeply anchored a franchise that could have easily lost its way among the studio proclivities for watered down characters, special effects and men as the focus of our emotional investment. • Read full story »

Jennifer Lawrence‘s tips for getting through a marathon day? Pop Rocks, Slim Jims, and good old H2O!

As if the star wasn’t endearing enough already, Lawrence told Us Weekly on the Oscars red carpet Sunday, Mar. 2, that she was getting through her marathon day with the help of junk food.

“When I’m presenting, I’m going to pour them into my mouth,” Lawrence joked of the Pop Rocks she pulled out of her purse, along with other snacks. Wearing a cherry color Dior Haute Couture gown with peplum ruffles at her waists, she quipped that her experience on the red carpet was similar to that of the 2013 Oscars, where she took home a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

“I’m just as hungry and my feet still hurt,” the blonde star told Us. “I’ve got a Slim Jim and protein bar… and Pop Rocks.”

Indeed, Lawrence’s experience was enhanced, yet again, with a clumsy moment — this year, the star stumbled over a cone on the red carpet. Lawrence, wearing $2 million worth of Neil Lane diamonds and jewels, was coming off a packed schedule even before arriving outside Dolby Theatre.

Styled by Rachel Zoe for the 2014 Oscars, the Hunger Games lead, 23, endured about two to three hours of head-to-toe preparations Sunday afternoon. An insider, who was with Lawrence as she prepped for the awards show in her Beverly Hills hotel, noted that at one point, boyfriend Nicholas Hoult handed the actress a glass of water. He wanted “to make sure she was hydrated before their long day,” the source said.

Joined by her parents Gary and Karen Lawrence, the couple took pictures together then headed for the Oscars at 2:15 p.m. Ahead of their departure, Lawrence turned to Hoult and told the actor to “eat lots of the chips and sandwiches.”

During the show, a source told Us that Lawrence “was passing out ginger chewy candies to Bradley Cooper and his [girlfriend Suki Waterhouse].” The eyewitness added that Hoult — who was affectionate with Lawrence for much of the evening — turned his girlfriend and told her, “I love you.”
