Jennifer Lawrence Hopes Mystery Illness Is ‘All in My Mind’

Tales of intestinal problems were not the kind of headlines expected to follow Jennifer Lawrence as she promotes ” Catching Fire,” the highly anticipated “Hunger Games” sequel, but, gas or not, the Oscar-winning actress is taking it all in stride.

“I was getting these really bad abdominal pains for like three weeks and I did that thing where I’m like, ‘I’m not going to go to the doctor,'” Lawrence said today on ” Good Morning America.” “Then I finally had a day where I was like no I need to get this looked at.”

“Now it’s reported in the news that I went to the emergency room for gas, which is awesome,” she said. “I was like, ‘I don’t even want to like [deny that]. Let’s confirm that.'”

So while the 23-year-old has been rocking barely-there dresses on the red carpet – as she did Monday in Los Angeles – and attending press event after press event, she has also been undergoing medical tests for her still-undiagnosed illness.

“They’re saying it could either be in my lower intestine or all in my mind,” Lawrence said. “I’m going to cross my fingers for it’s all in my mind and I’m just crazy.”

Crazy is also how Lawrence would describe her luck in, after a few days of consideration, nabbing the role of Katniss in “Hunger Games,” which changed her life forever.

“Most of my friends are still trying to kind of figure out what they want to do,” Lawrence said. “I’m doing what I love and I can do that forever. I just feel really lucky.”” Catching Fire” premieres Friday, more than one year after “The Hunger Games” took the world by storm, and Lawrence says that, thanks to co-stars like Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, and an ever-evolving storyline, she’s still excited about being a part of the monster hit.

“I was like, yeah, I’ll probably have fun on the first movie and then be bored on the rest of them but I’m so relieved and so excited because the group of people is so fun,” Lawrence said. “And also her [Katniss] journey keeps getting more and more exciting so [I’m] definitely not bored.”

Lawrence also downplayed her reputation as an on-set prankster, calling herself “just mean” instead.

“I’m not creative enough to do like actual pranks,” she said. “I think I’m just mean to everybody and everybody’s like, ‘Oh, she’s such a prankster,’ and I’m like, ‘No, I’m serious.'”

“That’s our set,” she said. “When we watch these movies we’re like, ‘Wow, we actually buckled down and did a movie. I didn’t know that we actually did that.'”

One prank Lawrence might have played on herself, unintentionally, is her much buzzed-about pixie cut, a dramatic difference from the long locks movie watchers are used to seeing her sport.

“It was really impulsive,” she said of the haircut she debuted on Facebook earlier this month. “I was like I’m cutting it and then it was just all gone. And now I just look in the mirror and I’m like, ‘Yeah, it is. It’s gone.'”
