Jennifer Lawrence still isn’t sure whether she’ll appear as Mystique in another X-Men movie, but she sure wants the changling mutant to join Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.
“Oh my god, I would love to,” she said during an interview with MTV News while promoting Passengers. “I actually don’t even know — I would choose that over doing another X-Men movie. I won’t be Mystique in the X-Men movies, but I would love to be Mystique in Guardians of the Galaxy. I wonder if they can do that.”
As it stands now, don’t hold your breath for this. Guardians 2 is well into the post-production process, so to incorporate Lawrence would require reshoots. But beyond that and more problematic: Fox currently holds the movie rights to the X-Men franchise, while the Avengers universe (including Guardians of the Galaxy) remains at Disney’s Marvel Studios.
Lawrence’s X-Men deal with Fox expired with X-Men: Apocalypse, and she’s since put her future with the franchise in doubt. “[Michael] Fassbender and [James] McAvoy and I were all talking,” she said earlier this year, “Like, ‘Will you come back?’ ‘I dunno.’ ‘I’ll come back, if you come back.’ Fox should be terrified because the deal we made was like if one of us doesn’t come back, none of us are.”
Her Passengers costar Chris Pratt, meanwhile, is enjoying his time as Star-Lord for director James Gunn. He’ll return in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, in theaters beginning May 5, 2017.
